- Ninth grade
Time:
This lesson will take 1 class period. (It may spill over to a second day).
Introduction:
Semester exams can be a difficult time for students. This can be especially true of ninth grade students preparing to take semester exams for the first time. In order to alleviate some of the stress, I am going to incorporate game-based learning in order to review for the exam. This will help students review while making them feel a little more comfortable.
Standards:

Use precise language and domain-specific vocabulary to manage the complexity of the topic.
Targets:
I can...

- identify examples of figurative language.
- eliminate redundancy.
Materials:
Learning Activity
- Students will join the class Kahoot! in order to review redundancy before the semester exam. Students will have to show mastery of this subject on both a multiple choice exam and a written product.
- After playing Kahoot!, the students will review figurative language with Quizizz. Quizizz will test their knowledge of figurative language as it applies to real world examples.
- The final game will be Quizlet. Students will review important literary elements that will be on the exam. They will need to know the definitions and how to apply the terms to a story on the final.
